…to the Muslim HR director at work?

…to the Muslim HR director at work? A budget was given to me for a specific project (that will affect me). My supv. wants to use some of that budget for other projects of his choosing (which will greatly hinder my project). When I talked to him about it, his answer was that it’s his department and he can do what he wants….in so many words. When I mentioned discussing it with the VP who gave me the budget – he told me not to and that I needed to be a ‘team player’ and keep our dept’s business to ourselves. He also said that if I couldn’t be that team player then ‘choices’ would have to be made. I took that as I would be fired or at least disciplined. I believe that he’s asked for money for his other projects and was denied – so he’s taking it from me. He’s only a director. A VP from a different dept. (not his supv., but higher than him) gave me the budget. What do I do? Do I have protection if I go to the [higher] VP against my supv. wishes? Go to HR? I fear retaliation, but I need all of the budget to do it right. I’m 34 years old and I work full time as a Human Resources Manager in Qatar. I have a university degree in Accounting. I need to have a degree in Human Resources. Is there any advice? Okay – I had a great second interview with the same company on Monday. For my first interview, I met with the HR Director, the Hiring Manager and the Creative Director. On Monday I met with the VP of Advertising and we seem to have ‘clicked’. I have already sent my ‘thank you’ letters to all of those mentioned. They will be making a decision on who gets the job next week or the week after. Would it be tacky to send an email to ‘smooze’ the hiring manager to say ‘thank you for selecting me for a second interview and I look forward hearing from you … ‘ Hi everyone.. I was offered a job back in Dec ’08 when I was still in school for a position that is to start in Jul ’09. I received a welcome note from the HR director in Apr ’09 and assumed that everything is set to go. However, I was recently contacted by the 3rd party contractor performing background check for more info/notarized statements etc. I did not lie on my resume nor inflate my qualifications and so I am wondering what could have gone wrong here. I am going to mail my acceptance letter to HR and the person who hired me. I feel like I should accept verbally as well. However, the person who hired me is a VP and always super busy and I really don’t feel like I should call him. Can I leave a message with his secretary or email him? Or should I just suck it up and call him directly at the risk of being annoying? |
