I think it depends. Was this a form letter that they send to everyone who applies, or did you have some sort of personal communication with the HR person? I would email back something brief like “thank you. I look forward to hearing from him/her.”
Of course send a thank you. Add that if there is any further information that you can provide to contact you.
Just something simple like “Thank you for taking care of that” will work.
