Can I Do Anything About A Consistently Late Paycheck?

I recently moved to southern California from the east coast and have been working at this job for about 3 months now. I am paid semi-monthly so I’m scheduled to be paid on the 10th and 25th of each month. My paycheck has always been 2 to 3 days late and actually never cared (I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it). This time however, it’ been over a week and I still have not been paid. I called payroll and the lady was rude and stated that she couldn’t do anything about it and it is utimately my choice if I wanted to continue waiting for the mail or she can cancel the check and reissue it but that would mean a longer wait. I wasn’t too sure about Cali paycheck rules and I wanted my paycheck ASAP so I asked for her to reissue a new paycheck for me…. I didn’t know until after she had processed it that it would mean I won’t get paid until the next pay period. When I asked if there was anything I can do to speedy up this process, I was told “No. There’re nothing you can do it is a process.”
I’m not sure what this process is but I don’t understand why I have to go through a month without a pay. I’ve tried contacting HR/ VP of Operations and I received the same answer. Is there anything I do in this situation?
I’m an at-will employee so I’m not sure if it’s wise to go to the labor board. I REALLY like my job, I’m just very frustrated with the payroll/ HR people. I recently discussed the situation with my co-workers who are being paid via mail as well, and they all said that their paychecks are always late too. During my training phase I was told by the Operations person that it is the organization’s policy to mail out our checks 3 days before pay date to ensure we receive our checks on time but after speaking with payroll, I found out it was the evening before pay day. That really ticked me off.
Is there much I can do in this situation or screw myself over?

Sadly, there is probably nothing you can do about this. If the mail is late, that is not their fault. I do think they are rude to be so callous about it, but they are not really doing anything wrong.
So, instead of thinking of your pay dates as the 10th and the 25th, I’d pretend they are the 15th and the 30th and I’d organize my bills to accommodate that.
Have you considered direct deposit? That would take care of everything…
To get you through till the next pay period, sounds like you’re going to need a loan from friends, family or a check loan place.
Good luck… I feel for you.

Find out if they have direct deposit. Problem solved if they do.

i have never heard of a company mailing out paychecks three days ahead so you get them on the day they are due?
who is to say how long the post office will take to deliver them?
its the holiday season mail is slower its a fact of life
you will just have to live with it
does the company offer direct deposit?
so you havent gotten the 25th of Novembers check yet?
i am showing six business days but of course the post office delivers on saturday so you should have gotten it by now so you did the best thing to get it reissued for the 10th of this month
but no matter what some poeple will say
its highly unusual for the post office to lose mail all together

No. THis is usually a sign that the business is operating on borrowed funds. It could close at any time.
Or the owner is so poor at bookkeeping that she risks losing all her workers over non-payment of wages.
Either one are a sign of trouble for you..

i believe it might be because of the economy prob. but that’s just my opinion but depends on how the company runs things you can ask your boss for the money and maybe explain why you didn’t get it and maybe he can cancel the other one and give it to you right then but i have no clue other wise sorry
i feel so bad for you and i do not believe that they its all their fault tho but hey keep what ur doing and it will change for the good k

Look at the unemployment rate rising in an economy that’s sinking. Your situation sucks, but you have a job. An at will job at that.
I’m guessing this company does not offer direct deposit?
