Company Layoffs….what Would You Do In This Situation?

You are the HR Director for a large manufacturing firm that is undergoing major changes. Your firm is in the process of building two technologically advanced plants. When these are completed, the company will close four of its five old plants. It is your job to determine who will stay with the old plant and who will be retrained for the newer plants.
One old plant employee is a 56-year old production worker who has been with your firm for 10 years. He seems to be a close personal friend of your boss as they are often seen together socially. However, in your opinion, he is not capable of handling the high-tech work required at the new plants, even with additional training. He is not old enough to receive any retirement benefits and there are other qualified workers more senior to him who want to remain at the old plant.
What would you do?

How The Hell Can She Be Mad At Me?

I was friends with a co-worker until recently, when I ended the friendship, because she was discussing me with the HR Director. I don’t know the tone of the conversations, but after having these discussions burn me on several occasions, I went directly to her to see what was going on. She explained that they were just talking and she was misunderstood. I’m not angry, but I also don’t feel comfortable speaking to her, because I don’t know what she’s going to repeat. I’m not talking **** or anything, but she’s taking my words and spinning them to the negative when she repeats them and I have no idea why.
Now she’s angry with me? What’s that about? Am I being too logical? If you’re twisting my words to the HR Director and getting me in hot water, I’m going to avoid conversations that aren’t work related with you to stay out of hot water. Makes sense to me.

Reference Letter To County?

I’m applying for a county position. Just recently took a state exam to determine if I may pass on to the interview session. It takes six weeks to find results and it’s been 5 weeks already. I have friends who are lawyers who have made reference letters for me. Should I send them in now to the county HR director, wait until I get the interview, or just not send them at all? Thank you for your help!! =)
