Christmas Party
I’m happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We’ll have a small band playing traditional carols…feel free to sing along. And don’t be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00pm. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone’s pockets. This gathering is only for employees! Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time!
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Should Someone Be Held Back In Their Job For Not Socializing With Coworkers?

The Holiday Season is here and it is time for the annual Corporate Christmas party. It is always held at the local 4 Star Hotel Ballroom with great music and food. It is a nice affair. Many of the staff does not want to go because they are not friendly with their coworkers and have no one to talk to.
The COO and Human Resources Director informally notice who is not going to the annual Holiday Party and the summer Corporate Picnic. Both of them strongly belive that everyone should go to these events as part of their corporate citizenship. Everyone is told when they are hired that they are part of the corporate family and they need to look at the job as more than a place to go 8-5. Attending corporate events like the Christmas Party is part of that obligation.
Do you think that people should be rewarded at performance appraisal time if they make friends on the job and go to off hours events like the Holiday Party and Company Picnic?

I Can’t Get Ahold Of The Person Who Interviewed Me!?

I had an interview two weeks ago, (my third interview for this position) and the person I interviewed with was on vacation for one of those weeks. I am trying to follow up on the interview because I want this job SO BAD. However, the person I am trying to call is a Human Resources director, and he never seems to answer his phone. I’m not sure if he’s screening, or just really busy. Should I keep calling? Send an e-mail? How do I get around this? Also, I don’t want my number to show up multiple times because I don’t want to look like a stalker. If I call the main desk and am transferred, does the number show up??

Can Hr People Tell Your Boss If You’ve Applied For A Different Job?

I work at a consortia of schools. I work at one but applied for a job at our neighboring school. I think our joint HR director told my current boss I applied and now she is acting really weird.
Was it illegal for the HR person to say something? Do I have any recourse because she is really coming down hard on me?
Thanks!

How Far ‘up’ Would You Take This Complaint Or Would You Just Quit?

I got a job that ended up with duties that were different from those in the job description. OK. That happens. I ended up having to do a lot of mindless data entry. I had pain in my dominant arm when I started but figured it would be no big deal, until I found out I had to do all this mindless data entry stuff. I did it and found I could get through 3-4 hours a day tops until the pain got too severe. I told the supervisor. She said, ‘Doesn’t matter. We all work in pain around here.’ I finally got a diagnosis of 3 nerve tumors in my wrist, forearm, & elbow. Told the ‘human resources’ director my problem. that I had a health issue recently diagnosed & I was not doing work in my job description and doing it to the point where the pain was debilitating. She said, “That’s odd. We have plenty of employees with arm problems and they can do data entry more than 4 hours a day.” That was it as far as the supervisor and HR person were concerned. Would you go to a ‘higher up’ or just quit?

My Workplace Reputation Is Ruined, What Do I Do?

I was ill and came to work with a doctor’s note, the doctor’s note went from my supervisor to the operation manager to the human resources director, somehow someone put a movie ticket for one of the days i was ill. I got called up for it and they basically didn’t believe i didn’t know about the ticket, i feel like my reputation is ruined. I want to go back and find the person who did this and take revenge, right now it feels like an obession, What should i do? Go on stress leave, call my lawyer? My doctor gave me his clinical notes from my illness that was on my file.
