I am a permanent employee in local government. I’m not a contractor. I am interested in training that will cost $2500. My government is small and stingy. They talk about things being expensive often. I feel like I would be asking for something that may be too expensive for them, however the girl in HR says I can just talk to my director or supervisor.
Now, can asking for training assistance do any harm in my relationship with my employer in case they decline?

Ok, I had an interview and it went really well. I got a tour of the place, met the Director of Operations and was there for 2 hours. I got a phone call the very next morning from the HR manager, which was the person I spent most of interview. He said that I did an “outstanding job”. This was pretty much what he said to me -> “I want you to know that you are a very stong candidate for this position. Both the Director of Operations and I thought you were outstanding and would be a great fit for our organization. There is one other candidate with a slight edge over you, ONLY because of her background. You do not lack anything that we are looking for. I want you to really be proud of yourself for the interview and keep in mind that you are definately a strong candidate with this position. We’ll see where this goes.”
What does this mean?! Do I have a chance at this position???
Feedback please??

I have an interview line up next week that will be for 5 hours long with 5 different people. I never have an interview that long before so I’m a little nervous as to what to expect and how to prepare for it. I already have an interview with the HR recruiter already, this next one will be with the department director, manager, 2 senior, then with the HR recruiter again. What type of questions do you think each of them will be asking according to their position? Will they be the same or different? Then what type of questions should you ask each person according to their position? I’m just nervous as in how many questions can they possibly ask and how many questions can you possibly ask them and etc…

Do companies do background checks after the 1st interview or the 2nd interview?
I filled out all the applications and surveys and interviewed with the controller and the hr director. Then they called me back for a second interview and this time I’ll be interviewing with the controller, hr director and the president of the company.
Do you think the background check was performed after the 1st interview or are they going to wait until after the second interview with the president?
Thank you so much!!

I’m under a lot of stress at work because my manager keeps confronting me about a director I went to HR about almost a year ago – she was a very difficult person to work for and was very unethical at times – because I brought it to HR’s attention, she lost some of her power – my current manager was able to benefit from me doing this by becoming our new manager – but the thing is that I still have to work for this director indirectly and find that my manager takes her side when making desicions – my life is a living hell for the last year at work because it feels like I don’t have anyone on my side and I don’t know what to do – what would do???

I accepted a job offer through the phone from a HR person. He emailed me all the paperwork, employment package, etc.
Who should I make the Job Acceptance Letter to? The HR person or the Director?
or I should not write it because the start date is less than a week and HR just told me to come in on that date?

It seems like I am going to be hired and have to meet with the HR director next week.
At my current job my salary is ridiculously low. Obviously, if I mention what I am currently making I will get severely undercut.
I think this opportunity can potentially double my salary.
What should I say or avoid saying in order to maximize my salary and avoid getting undercut?
Thanks.

The position is Administrative Assistant, however I will be completing tasks for at least two individuals; an HR regional director & the company’s attorney. How much should I request for my salary? Any suggestions?
