You’re in the fridge, get it?
The other day I put a urine sample cup in the fridge at work. It was full of apple juice with some yellow food coloring (very nice effect). Anywho, the HR VP hit the roof, along with any number of people in the building. An e-mail went out asking for the person responsible to come forward, (which I did not do nor do I have any intention of doing) so HR could resolve the situation. In other words, fire me. After no one came forward they announced that a hazmat team was going to brought in to dispose of the container. I mean, come on! Of course, that never happened. The janitor put on a rubber glove and threw it away.
The name on the sample was fake, but really funny, Penelope Persons (PP). Since this was obviously a joke, do you think that HR went too far, or was I doing something completely out of line?

I was hired as an HR Manager at a company that had hired a lot of illegal immigrants before I was there. I found out from my boss that this was the reason the two previous HR Managers quit the job. Not to mention my Manager (VP, owner’s daughter) wouldn’t let me report an injury for an employee who burned her hand in a small fire. When I asked why, she said “we can’t report this ’cause if OSHA finds out we use illegal chemicals we will be shut down”. After numerous employees (illegal immigrants) reported having headaches, and the two miscarraiges in the department, I confronted my Manager about the illegal chemicals. She wasn’t too happy and fired me this past Friday for making a “payroll mistake”.
Can you point me in the right direction of who to call and what to do in this type of situation? I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I found out something happened to any of the 230 employees that work there.
Did I mention they are located in front of an oil refinery.

I went for the on-site interview in late Februray after many contacts through phones and emails for months. It went pretty well and they asked me to fill out the employment application form, which has the information on the desired pay scale, starting date, and references. In the middle of March the VP contacted me stating they really wanted me to join, but offered a salary much lower than I wanted. I told them that was too low and the VP said he would come up with another number the next day. Then the number turned out to be really close to my stated desired pay and I happily accepted. At the same time I asked to delay my starting date a little bit if possible. This seemed no problem to them and I was told to expect my package next week. Then the coming week HR people contacted me for some additional documents. I know they contacted 2 of my references (not sure on the 3rd). It has been 2+ weeks since the last call. Without an written offer, it’s risky to arrange things.

I work in a small office for a small business in Florida. Workers complained about an Asian woman microwaving fish because of the odor. It’s her favorite food and she comes from a different culture- she doesn’t see it as offensive. She never signed or read an HR Manual. I did, and there’s no food odor policy. The complainers told the VP, who told her to stop cooking and eating fish. She obeyed. What does the law say about this, especially if she refused and got fired?

I have been interviewing over the phone with a company for about 4 weeks now. I have had phone conversations with the Acct. Director, Supervisor and the VP of Acct Services.I have a friend that works there and said that everyone liked me. Last week (weds) I had my final interview before I was supposed to go to the company. However since then the HR manager that I have been dealing with has just disappeared, she will not return my call or email. This is for a major company so I am trying to give it two weeks before I really start to think that it is a no go. Has anyone experienced this, or have an idea of what might be going on. I haven’t received a letter, email or phone call saying that I didn’t get the job but at the same time I haven’t heard anything either. Any help on this would be appreciated *** I really want this job and am really trying to stay positive about it.

I am in sales, and have always been over quota. I applied for another position within my company that recently mergered with another company. The VP called me to setup an interview, and left a message outlining the selection process. I waited four days after the deadline to be contacted, and to make a long story short, they hired another internal canidate. What make this sting most of all is they hired an new employee of only three months when I have 4 years of service. I complained to HR, and now I feel black listed. Do companies black list others? Should I move on?

My supervisor is very pushy ever since i came back after being off for 14 days due to a medical condition. With this being said, she and the Senior VP wrote me up for unexcused absence “even though i brought in a doctors excuse.” After that things just got very bad. She would speak to me with disrespect in a negative tone, everything i did was wrong, always asking what i am doing just nick picking for no reason. So I went to the Senior VP told what was going on and he said he didn’t want to get involved we needed to find some way to work it out. I then went to my supervisor and tried to talk to her and she just blew me off. I felt like i needed to just transfer to another department i spoke to the VP again and he told me he didn’t want to lose me and that was not an option. I felt like they were trying to trap me or make me quit so i then went to HR told them what the situation was and they were already aware of it due to a friend i ahve that work in HR told them about something brewing in my department but didn’t tell them my name. I had my meeting she had her meeting and all of a sudden she and the VP were in a meeting trying to find a way to fire me per my friend in HR. They couldn’t fire so they changed my job descriptions and added more responsibilities and was dated the day i filed a complaint with HR. I had my annual review meeting with her and got a poor rating. She explained that i took off 27 days off and I figured they were either doctor excused or vacation i was never written up before my write up i just received for my medical condition. She also explained that my co-workers are complaining i don’t get the reports ready which is untrue because i am the first one in @ 7am. Then she said well i could have fired you because my swipe card clocked me coming in a few @ 2-3 minutes after 7 but didn’t want to because I am good worker but I got a negative review why not fire me for that. All this is retaliation for talking to HR which didn’t help at all what should i do because they will not help?

Basically, long story short, I started a job a year and a half ago. All went well for the first 6 months, then my boss got very angry at being passed up for a promotion. Now, his whole attitude is, “If I’m not happy then no one can be happy.” Everyone is miserable because of him. He calls me into meetings on friday afternoons at 5pm and I don’t leave until 9pm. He yells, slams his fist on the desk and shoots pens across the room in his rage. He is so angry at me for taking one sick day when I had bronchitis or for having a bad result on one project out of 100’s I’ve worked on. Others in our office all have kids and are afraid to report him and possibly be fired. Our VP is above him and adores him b/c he kisses butt to her all day. Should I go to HR and report him for harrassment. I have lots of e-mails, quotes and tons of examples with dates of how he treats me. Our industry is tight and small and word travels fast so it may be hard to get another job later on. Please help me??

just wondering how I should ask him that’s politically correct and also if I should ask him or HR?
I’m pretty ticked off, my boss got a bonus and every VP that reports to him but not me (I’m his assistant)
I feel like calling, in confidence, another secretary I know to see if she has one but not sure if that’s a good idea.
I’d really appreciate your input. Thank you.

I interviewed for this job over the past three weeks. I met with the department director, division director, and VP. They called my references and gave my stuff to HR. HR called and said that the co. wanted to make an offer… but first they needed my salary history. I provided it. Then the next day the HR girl called as asked if I had ever completed an application and said he needed to check my ref. I told her that my responders had indicated someone from the co. had contacted them for reference and she informed me that only SHE could check ref. and no one else (well!) She emailed the app. and I returned it. So far, none of my responders have heard from her and I am not sure if it is because she is waging a power war or what. How do I follow up on this and get the offer? I need to get on with it! Thanks.
