It puts you in the hands of the hypnotist. By allowing your will to be subjected to this person, they can plant any suggestion they like in your head. True, they can’t force you to act against your will, but they can block memories or suggest false “memories” and create problems.
You should **never** engage in any activity that encourages you to “empty your mind” because then it can be filled with useless or even dangerous garbage.
Obviously there are no Bible passages on hypnosis as such, but we do have valid principles about having a sound mind and using the intelligence God gave us, not lying passive letting someone else use us.

Excuse me, are you a nutter?

  • There are many things which have a good side to them which are connected to the dark arts or used within them but that does not necessarily make the practice itself bad. For instance…the exercises that one can take which are ‘yoga’ based are good…but the belief principle behind yoga is not to Christians….Reflexology, hypnotherapy, acupuncture and many other holistic practices have been connected with ‘religions’ but the practices themselves can be good for peoples health. I believe that God has allowed man these ‘good’ practrices’ but the non-Christian sector of the world….have taken everything good….influenced by satan who can see all the bad uses…..and made them bad.
So what I am saying is…if the practice is used for good without any connection to the dark arts then I would see no problem with its usage…we just have to take care with who we allow to control the activity.
    Best wishes, Mike.
PS…if we always to want the control of our lives as mentioned in your Bible quotes…we would never submit to anaesthetic whether general or local. We would not sit in a dentists chair or take pills prescribed by our GP…etc etc.

  • Quote scripture. Find a passage that states “hypnotherapy is an abomination unto the Lord”.

Would you care to explain why Hypnotherapy is wrong in scientific terms ? It is impossible to do so in superstitious/religious terms, as it falls within the discipline of science.

I don’t believe there is any common sense OR “biblical” support for your contention, is there? Where exactly in the Bible (or in the Qu’uran) does it say that effective methods of treatment for mental illness are “wrong”? Can you explain for us how seeking help to stop overeating or smoking from a hypnotherapist is different from praying to God for help with the same issues? (Except that maybe God’s time is a little more valuable than that of a medical practitioner?)

Honey, what do you think happened to you religious folks? Your question explains itself.

i’m a christian. don’t necessarily believe something is wrong because other chrisitans or your church say it is. it’s very important, especially as a christian to think for yourself and come to your own conclusions. use the bible as your base, but anything else you need to investigate and prayer about yourself.

  • Jack

wrong – it’s what you Christians subscribe to every day.

  • I dont think that it is in the Bible but if it goes againt you own beliefs they cannot force you to do anything that you dont want to do.

Gosh, I had absolutely no idea hypnotherapy was a religious issue. Are you sure it is a relevant point that the HR director is Muslim? It looks like you’re after a faith war.

  • mikeinpo

Why? How do you figure that? Sounds like a bit of a stretch , but if you look long enough , you’ll find some passage to justify that position . Seriously though, the religious justification strategy’s a crutch. If you just don’t want to do it , say so , and explain the real reason. (fear of losing control? because it’s overbearing & they shouldn’t force you?)

  • one undone

You can’t. Religion gives a spirit of fear in order to keep their own. Hypnotherapy has helped a lot of people. If you haven’t tried it then don’t pretend to have knowledge of it, please.

  • AJ

I think hypnotherapy would be wrong if it were to be used to commit to sins and for evil ways
Just have to explain it to your boss.

  • Rachel the VT

If you can’t think of any reasons why it’s wrong, then maybe it’s not.
I’m a Christian and I don’t think it’s wrong, although I would question its validity.

  • Kallan- MIA

It’s not wrong, and I’d like to know why it’s so important for you to explain it to your HR director. I cannot see a correlation here, nor why you felt it important to state the religious belief of your HR director in the first place.

  • H-

I don’t think that the Bible ever says anything against hypnotherapy, buddy, and I don’t think that you should try to force your beliefs on someone else, anyway.

  • queenthe

I’m not a Christian, but if your employer is trying to pressure you into undergoing hypnotherapy, you should explain to him that he has no legal right to require you to do this.
If he is undergoing it himself, than I would MYOB.
Thanks for the add’l info, still not sure why the HR director’s religion is relevant tho’. However, I wonder what your company’s policy is on advertisements. I think there should be an across the board policy, not just randomly putting adverts up or down based on the whims of individual employees. If you think it is wrong, don’t go, but not everyone believes what you believe, so why should you be able to take that opportunity away ? How would you feel if an advert for a Christians pshycologist got yanked because one empoyee felt it was “wrong” ?

  • HealedEa

When you open yourself up to hypnotherapy, you open yourself up to demons coming into you. Thus opening yourself up to anything. We are to open ourselves up to God…allowing Him complete access to us, because HE is our loving creator.

  • Prophet

I’m a Christian and I honestly didn’t know that hypnotherapy was wrong. If you could maybe point out some scripture saying it is bad, then maybe you can prove it to the both of us.
