Get a PHR Certification and get a degree in HR or at least a certification in the field at a local college.

In HR, there are many core functions you can explore aside from recruitment and staffing such as:
1. Compensation & Benefits – handling job offers, retention packages, new remuneration packages, bonus simulation, budget simulation, benefits upgrade, etc.
2. Employee Relations & Industrial Relations – responsible in organizing corporate related activities, employee & Management issues (counselling)
3. Training – inclusive of actual “training” employees and research on training modules that can be applicable to different levels of employees
4. Administrative services – act as helpdesk and customer service
Getting an MBA is a big plus if you want career growth. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe Human Resources was intended to “be of service to others”. Which means, you need to love your job, a “sense of fulfillment” is only accomplished once you put your heart into it and doing HR work makes you happy.

I don’t know what city you’re in but the best way to shift focus and raise your pay at the same time is to apply for a higher position at another company. Always apply for something you think you can’t get. You know the big paying jobs with giant titles. You will be really surprised when they call you for an interview and you actually get the job.
