Employment Background Checks?

I was offered a job back in Dec ’08 when I was still in school for a position that is to start in Jul ’09. I received a welcome note from the HR director in Apr ’09 and assumed that everything is set to go. However, I was recently contacted by the 3rd party contractor performing background check for more info/notarized statements etc. I did not lie on my resume nor inflate my qualifications and so I am wondering what could have gone wrong here.

You didn’t give enough info to say for sure but this is likely standard procedure. At least that’s the way it is in the US anymore. Don’t worry about it until they call to say there’s a problem.
