How Do I Take This Interview?

I went to an interview last week. The HR Director interviewed me. I asked about benefits, he handed me a benefits booklet and told me he nevers does that in an interview. He told me to stay by the computer for there email. He said I wouldn’t want to compromise on the proposal, that what i was looking for to make is right within what they are willing to offer someone. He also gave me his personal cell number and told me to keep calling him if I do not hear anything by wed. So, I called him on Thurs. He told me that the company wants them to interview 2 others, to compare them to me.(This is a huge company). He told me to give him another week. I called him Friday, he is on vacation till the 14th. How do I take this? he told me to still hold on!

This HR guy is *not* acting very professionally. Either he’s simply not a responsible professional or the hiring manager (or department) doesn’t know what they want and are stringing him along in much the same way he’s stringing you along.
It’s also possible that while you were the first (and, possibly, the only) qualified candidate to respond initially, others have appeared. Sadly (for you), while they might have been late with their resumes, the company may be changing the rules of the game a bit to get them in for interviews.
Is it fair? Yes, from their point of view, and no from yours.
The question you have to ask yourself is: Given what you’ve seen from them so far — unprofessional conduct and a marked affinity for waffling — do you *really* want to work for this company?
They don’t seem to have it together. And allowing them to string you along for too long makes you appear desperate. And, in the long run, that could lower any offer you might get from them if you do stick it out.
Still, you could offer to come in for another interview — or additional work samples (if applicable) — if you really want to work there anyway.

If you made as little sense in the interview as you did in explaining what happened, he must have realize you were not qualified for the job.

  • Give him a deadline in which to respond to you (a date and time).Don’t let him string you on. If he does not get back to you,you will know it was not meant to be.Good luck1

I’ve worked for a large company for years — things move very slowly there. Are you still in line for the job? Could be. Try calling again when he’s back from vacation. Until he tells you that the job went to someone else, continue to pursue it.
