How Long To Wait For A Big Company To Get Back To Me After First Hr Call If They R Impressed By Interview?

I received a call from a very big company for a job offer. They (HR) were impressed and said they would talk to the director and get back to me. Its been 1 week today. How long should I wait for them to get back to me? Should I email them and ask about it? What should I write in the email so that they dont think that I’m bothering them or that its too early to ask them. Any email suggestions? Thanks.

I am a recruiter in a very large software company.
First of all, you need to understand that the director is probably gone and won’t be returning until after the New Year. So, you will have to be patient on this one. Secondly, your urgency unfortunately, is not their urgency. I would ping the recruiter on Jan. 2nd if you don’t hear anything, just so they don’t forget about you. But, at this stage I wouldn’t worry. The recruiter I am sure, presented your resume, but the director has just not gotten back to him/her yet. That is almost always the case.

I am in the same dilemma. It has been a little over a week. I just sent an e-mail thanking them for the opportunity to interview and meet their people and offered to answer any follow up questions. It is near the holidays so that could be a factor in timing. I have had some companys take a month to make an offer. I would say if it is over 2 weeks give HR a call. Don’t bug the manager that you interviewed with.

Did they offer you a job, or did they conduct a phone interview?
Either way, as an employer, I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t follow up with an e-mail and thank them for the time they spent talking to you. Just be sure of a couple of things.
First, be formal. Use Mr. or Ms. where appropriate. Also, don’t send it from a home account with some wacky name (hotfoxxx@yahoo.com for instance). Employers see that stuff, and no matter what they tell you, it matters.
Finally, don’t be afraid to offer up a request for some time to discuss your status.
    Good luck.
