How To Check That Software Is Correctly Configured?

I am working as an IT Support person. My job involves providing day to day support checking the performance of systems by running diagnostics. I also need to ensure that PC’s are free form viruses. My tasks are to Check that software is correctly configured ie. winxp, office 2000, HR System, Use Diagnostic tools to check out a system, Carry out preventative maintenance, Check for viruses and remove viruses. Explain all steps in full how you would go about completing your tasks.

    If you’re an IT support person, you’re supposed to know how to configure and test the platforms and applications that your employer uses.
    If you don’t, you might ask for more training on the specifics of your job, because every site is different in its requirements…

    your question is really complicated if you want to go through details, and really differs on what are your policies. but I may give you some hints:
    1-the best place to check for performance checking of OS because you said it is XP is the “Performance monitor” of XP.
    you may also use tools such as MRTG if you are looking for free ones, or some others if you may afford some.
    2-to check for viruses the best solution is to use a central solution like Symantec Antivirus corporate edition.
    and also be sure to use tools like SUS or WSUS to be sure that all your computers have the latest updates.
    3-for other issues you mentioned there is not a general solution, and it depends on what you mean by correctly configured, it really depends on what the system is and what you define to be correct.
