Hr Block Online Tax Return Error?

I am doing my 2009 taxes using HR Block’s online software. It is allowing me to claim as a dependent a 20 year old son who lived with me for the entire year but was not a full time student. I think this is an error. If it is, how could their software be that screwed up?

If it is allowing it it is under the Qualifying Relative rule, not the Qualifying Child rule. If his gross income for 2009 was less than $3,650 and you provided more than half of his support for the entire year than you CAN claim him as a dependent under the QR rule. Note that under that rule you get the exemption and maybe Head of Household filing status (because he’s your son) but you don’t get the Child Tax Credit (that dies at age 17) or the Earned Income Credit (as he’s not your QC) or any other tax benefits.
