I hope it wasn’t you. They should not just be selecting anyone for an HR position, it is a very imporatnat position to be in. If you have no idea what you are a doing I would suggest to take a course right away.
Edited to say: You forgot about the people. You will also need to take care of employee issues and all sorts of other things.
Glad your not my HR.

Go to each department and introduce yourself. Put together a project plan. Get a flow chart – lots of “stuff” – don’t forget to review personnel files!
