My Boss Is Trying To Get Me Fired!!! Help!!!?

I currently work in a department where there are only 2 people: me and my boss. We are so understaffed that the company is supposed to add 5 new positions. Regardless of this fact, my boss gives me work as if i am at least 4 of those missing positions and she does nothing (I also get some of her personal stuff to do as well). I have asked for help and she says i do not know how to time manage or prioritize even though her deadlines are insane. I recently asked for an extension on a financial analysis that she gave me one day to complete and she told me no. Now she is starting a papertrail to make me look incompetent. She has do this to 4 past employees in her department and she succeeded in getting them fired as well. I don’t know if i should go to HR because the VP of HR is one of her friends! What do i do???

See, this is what’s prevalent in the workplace today: No longer is it What You Know-it’s Who You Know, or Who You Kiss Up To.
That said, keep a counter-paper trail on her. It’s a two-way street, and you have the right to countercharge, regardless of her friendship with the VP. She’s creating a Hostile Environment-illegal.
Immediately start documenting every project given to you, including title, start/end dates, no. of pages, deadline dates-each on seperate paper, double space; also seperately include what you’ve stated above, re company supposed to add 5 new positions; again seperately include doing her personal stuff-in detail, including dates, etc., also include what you’ve stated above. The more paper you use, double space, narrow margins, the better. If you don’t remember dates, make them up; include the fact you’ve asked for an extension and she refused. She gets a copy.
If her harassment intensifies-keep documenting every incident, again on seperate paper, double spaced. This time whoever’s under that VP gets a copy, including all those other documentations. You’re going up the chain of command. Once they see your documentations, they’ll realize you mean business and you’ll have the right of taking this to court.
If nothing’s resolved and the situation gets worse-keep documenting and send copies of all your documentations to that VP. If nothing still isn’t resolved-keep documenting.
I hope this doesn’t happen to you, but if you’re fired on some unfounded charge, or because you documented this supervisor’s attitude towards you, immediately call your lawyer, take all of your documentations nicely bound, and ask him/her about also filing charges of Defamation of Character-your boss claimed you “didn’t know how to time manage or prioritize” even though her deadlines were insane, and charges of working in a hostile environment.
Good luck. And remember: You have the right to stand up and protect your integrity and work ethics against anyone, no matter what their title. She’s done the same to 4 other employees?? Your boss is playing a dangerous chess game on people’s lives. Nothing Lasts Forever. One day she’ll lose.

In addition to looking for another job, I would go to HR with your concern. But when you bring it HR just mention your concerned. Mention how much work your doing and why you feel it’s impossible for one person to keep up with it all. Don’t mention that your boss is trying to get you fired. That’s an opinion. Just bring them facts. If you’ve been given any of the paper trail just make it clear to HR how it’s an impossible expectation your being told you aren’t meeting.

Find a job somewhere else and leave – she sounds like someone you don’t want to work for.
Until you find that new job, if you feel like you’re being bullied then you have to raise it with HR, and do it in writing so that you have backup if you need it.

Play nice-nice with her, and let all insults and abuses be forgiven.

This is known as constructive dismissal. She wants you out. In England There is an organization called ACAS that deals with these matters. You could do worse than look them up on the computer for ideas. The rules may be different where you are, but maybe industrial tribunals exist. Never know, you may get her slung out for being useless and you get her job. Although the phone call may be a bit expensive, you are still only talking a few dollars if you are calling from the US, maybe phone Acas anyway – their advice is free, they are experts in employment law, and may be able to put you on to someone in your area.

I’m currently going through something. Since me and the coworker I was swearing in front of staff they encluded the HR and HR is taking the case to the VP (mind you everyone at the job was in similar situation). This was my first time you think I can get fired? They got this lady to lie on me, but I fount out through someone else (I’m not suppose to know), but their faxing all the info to the VP.
