you should really go see a psychiatrist as soon as possible. i know you say that you’re seeing your gp, but from personal experience i can tell you that gp’s do not always know how to treat mental illness. they were not trained to do so. your work and colleagues really have no business knowing what is going on medically with you. your boss should know, so if something happens such as when the doctor had you out of work. your co-workers however do not need to know your medical status. it is none of their business why you have cut/scars either, so you do not need to explain that to anyone. if they are friends of yours, and you WANT to share that information with them, that’s fine.
you should continue taking any mediation you’re on, and seeing a counselor (if you are). if you aren’t seeing a counselor, you should be. you sound like you have some emotional issues you need to work out…that is usually what cutting signifies. if you need to take time off work to get yourself healthy, then that’s what you have to do. if you take to your doctor, preferably a psychiatrist, you may be able to get temporary disability/ or unemployment if your condition is severe enough and making you unable to work.
i hope you get better, please get yourself some help (not from your GP) as soon as possible….like, this needed to be taken care of yesterday. good luck.
If you don’t have a psychiatrist and a psychologist, I would suggest that you get them and be honest with them, which I think you would be.
Cutters and self abusers use this technique to relieve emotional pain, they move the pain to physical pain. And it works for a while but the emotional pain/problem doesn’t go away. It’s also a sign of low self esteem and worthiness.
Your employer can insist that you see a doctor for fitness of duty and you must go for the evaluation. If you get an unfit for duty report, they could fire you or put you in a boring enough job so that would lead you to quit on your own. They could also notice any mistake that you make and make note of it in your employee performance report. Which could lead to firing if you get enough bad reviews. They could also put you on a lengthy unpaid leave of absence unless you have sick days and vacations days to cover the leave of absense.
Good luck.
Good luck. Keep your cutting in control and please see a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Continue with your medications as prescribed unless they hamper your employment.
