As the Human Resource leader, your responsibilities range from directing the daily operations of the Human Resources Department, administrate HR policies, budgeting and supervise HR staff. In addition, your department will manage employee benefits, performance management, employee counseling, recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, worker’s compensation, employee health, meet compliance and HRIS programs. As HR Director, you act as the liaison to upper management and directly report to the President / CEO of most companies.
You will only get a place if you have GCSE grade C or above in maths, science and english.
Your experience with children illustrates your commitment to the job and your experience of other work places will certainly be useful to you in a teaching career, which is at least 50% admin. However in order to update your details you may need to re-apply for next year.
In the meantime, try to get on a course through clearing, ring the universities you choose and try to speak to a tutor. As to which uni, that is a very personal issue. Visit, read the prospectus for each uni and good uni guides. Don’t be swayed by top-ten unis, look for those with good grades in teaching degrees.
An alternative route is to contact local schools/education authorities and ask about in-school training, through skip schemes or GTP/GRTP. These are paid placements in which you work alongside an experienced teacher.
Ask the schools for whom you work; they may be happy to take you on under such a scheme.
Good luck, but don’t think teaching is the easy route – it’s a bl***y hard job although fun and very, very rewarding.
Personally, I think the odds of getting a place for primary in clearing are slim.
I think you need to sort out your C.V first, to give yourself the best chance of getting a place for next years entry!
Most people I know (including myself) applied as soon as the GTTR porthole opened last September for applications!
I gained a place at my 1st choice Newcastle and know others who did to.
If it helps, this is what I did/got in preparation for applying:
10 gcses a-c
3 a-levels aab
degree from Newcastle Uni
masters degree from Sunderland Uni
2 years voluntary work in a school
and portfolio.
I know a lot of people who did secure places had similar C.Vs.
I suggest you get maths and science grade c, read and research about education and gain extensive work experience in a school.
Good Luck!
It may be worth contacting the school of Education you are interested in. When I decided to get my degree in Science Education, I had just got all the forms together for UCAS but on a whim dropped an email to my local university. Someone had dropped out at the last minute, and after a quick interview and check of my qualifications, I attended my first lecture just 10 days after sending the email!
They may accept you without the Grade C, but only if they are desperate and you are going to take it
