Recently Offered A Job Verbally..what Is The Wait Time For A Formal Offer From The Hr?

I was recently offered a job verbally by the vice president of a company. The VP told me that the HR department will contact me in a week with a formal offer. Its been over a week and I haven’t received anything. I was wondering how long does one wait to get a formal offer from the HR department. Is there anything I should do expedite
the process? ie..calling the HR department…thanks in advance

Yes call…but of course this varies from company to company. The HR person might be out sick. Can’t hurt to check. Just explain what you were offered and that you are curious to know when you would see it in writing.

Did you get the VP’s business card?
Send a follow up thank you letter, let him know how excited you are about working for their company, and then subtely ask about your expected start date. This will incite the VP to possibly send an email to HR and at the very least, get back to you with what’s going on.
