Do you know if you have to have a degree in human resources? Or can you get these certifications without a degree in HR? I work in Human Resources but my bachelor’s degree is in psychology. Am I eligible to get a PHR or SPHR certification in human resources then?

I am looking for any inexpensive or free scripts for intranet management; also looking for anything for HR and/or groupware collaboration. I need something I can host on my own server, that can run on linux with mySQL. All leads appreciated.

I was hired to be the salaried office manager of a small, busy construction office in Chicago, IL. I have also become the HR director, the receptionist and at the moment, the accountant. One of the guys in the office is dumping a lot of work on me which severely limits my capacity to tend to my original and additional duties. I don’t have time for breaks and barely have time for lunch. The boss said I have to help him. This guy yells at me, swears at me and constantly belittles me. He also yells at everyone else in the office, telling them what their job is and how to do it. I complained to the boss and the guy stopped swearing at me, but that’s all that’s stopped. I have been bringing work home nights and weekends, yet I get yelled at for not getting all the work done and have to deal with upset customers and coworkers because I don’t have time to do anything for them. I have 3 kids at home and I’m having a hard time finding another job that pays decent. What can I do?

I recently moved to southern California from the east coast and have been working at this job for about 3 months now. I am paid semi-monthly so I’m scheduled to be paid on the 10th and 25th of each month. My paycheck has always been 2 to 3 days late and actually never cared (I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it). This time however, it’ been over a week and I still have not been paid. I called payroll and the lady was rude and stated that she couldn’t do anything about it and it is utimately my choice if I wanted to continue waiting for the mail or she can cancel the check and reissue it but that would mean a longer wait. I wasn’t too sure about Cali paycheck rules and I wanted my paycheck ASAP so I asked for her to reissue a new paycheck for me…. I didn’t know until after she had processed it that it would mean I won’t get paid until the next pay period. When I asked if there was anything I can do to speedy up this process, I was told “No. There’re nothing you can do it is a process.”
I’m not sure what this process is but I don’t understand why I have to go through a month without a pay. I’ve tried contacting HR/ VP of Operations and I received the same answer. Is there anything I do in this situation?
I’m an at-will employee so I’m not sure if it’s wise to go to the labor board. I REALLY like my job, I’m just very frustrated with the payroll/ HR people. I recently discussed the situation with my co-workers who are being paid via mail as well, and they all said that their paychecks are always late too. During my training phase I was told by the Operations person that it is the organization’s policy to mail out our checks 3 days before pay date to ensure we receive our checks on time but after speaking with payroll, I found out it was the evening before pay day. That really ticked me off.
Is there much I can do in this situation or screw myself over?

I am not sure if there is special certification, or if special certification is even required. What I do have:
A BA in Psychology
A MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
(Some job history: I was a Graduate Assistant in my MA program; I worked in HR for a Fortune 500 COmpany; and now am a Mgmt Consultant)
Please any info woudl be greatly appreciated on what exactly I would need to do, to make the carrer switch…

I was then forced to take a drug and alcohol test, which both came back negative. This was embarrassing and I am worried that I will have lost respect from my co-workers. While I was gone taking the test the situation was being discussed with other employees including employees that directly report to me. I was suspended until the director of human resources comes back to work, even though I had the test results and they were negative. Any advice?
