Ok, my boss is leaving the company. He was the manager and I am the employee. His boss which is a vp of the company is making my boss show me his job. I find this unfair due to the fact that these are all manager functions. The position is not posted yet, nor would I go for the job. Can the VP really make me learn my bosses job? Is that fair? What do I do? Some of the functions my boss does are very high level reporting the goes to the CEO of the company. Do I go to HR? Help

A budget was given to me for a specific project (that will affect me). My supv. wants to use some of that budget for other projects of his choosing (which will greatly hinder my project). When I talked to him about it, his answer was that it’s his department and he can do what he wants….in so many words. When I mentioned discussing it with the VP who gave me the budget – he told me not to and that I needed to be a ‘team player’ and keep our dept’s business to ourselves. He also said that if I couldn’t be that team player then ‘choices’ would have to be made. I took that as I would be fired or at least disciplined. I believe that he’s asked for money for his other projects and was denied – so he’s taking it from me. He’s only a director. A VP from a different dept. (not his supv., but higher than him) gave me the budget. What do I do? Do I have protection if I go to the [higher] VP against my supv. wishes? Go to HR? I fear retaliation, but I need all of the budget to do it right.

I was hired to be the salaried office manager of a small, busy construction office in Chicago, IL. I have also become the HR director, the receptionist and at the moment, the accountant. One of the guys in the office is dumping a lot of work on me which severely limits my capacity to tend to my original and additional duties. I don’t have time for breaks and barely have time for lunch. The boss said I have to help him. This guy yells at me, swears at me and constantly belittles me. He also yells at everyone else in the office, telling them what their job is and how to do it. I complained to the boss and the guy stopped swearing at me, but that’s all that’s stopped. I have been bringing work home nights and weekends, yet I get yelled at for not getting all the work done and have to deal with upset customers and coworkers because I don’t have time to do anything for them. I have 3 kids at home and I’m having a hard time finding another job that pays decent. What can I do?

Hi everyone, I’m not sure a “grievance” is exactly what I’m looking for.
Here’s the story. I’m the Communications director and answer only to CEO of the company and there is no in-house HR department. I often have meetings and conversations with my boss and he consistently forgets the details of our meetings/discussions. For instance I had a conversation with him over the phone yesterday and today he calls me into his office and misconstrues the details of our previous conversation, basically calling me a liar. I clearly remember every detail of the call and once again he refuses to believe what I’m saying. He is ALWAYS doing this and I’ve had enough! Should I write some kind of letter to him as an official “statement” or “complaint” stating the facts of our conversation and what had occurred?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I currently work in a department where there are only 2 people: me and my boss. We are so understaffed that the company is supposed to add 5 new positions. Regardless of this fact, my boss gives me work as if i am at least 4 of those missing positions and she does nothing (I also get some of her personal stuff to do as well). I have asked for help and she says i do not know how to time manage or prioritize even though her deadlines are insane. I recently asked for an extension on a financial analysis that she gave me one day to complete and she told me no. Now she is starting a papertrail to make me look incompetent. She has do this to 4 past employees in her department and she succeeded in getting them fired as well. I don’t know if i should go to HR because the VP of HR is one of her friends! What do i do???

I would normally go to the HR department with this information, but in this case, I work in HR and my boss is the Director of the department. Her behavior goes against everything I believe in and it’s starting to affect my morale at work. Since I don’t participate in the festivities she treats me as though she made a mistake in hiring me. Should I confront her? Should I just quit? From what I understand, the company is fine with the occasional fun during work, but again, she’s the Director of HR and she’s doing this at least 3 days a week.

i dont want to sign, is this legal? HR’s “mistake.” The only reason im annoyed is also bc i should be a director (based on qualification, experience, etc). can i take legal action for them demoting me for no reason? should i resign?

I like my boss and these comments arent made about or toward me, but I feel quite uncomfortable sometimes. He and the HR director are friends and by going to HR I think I would be signing my pink slip. Should I contact someone else??

My boss needs to let 8 people go because of cutbacks at the corporate level. So the HR director and my Boss have forced us all to play Survivor for our jobs. We are currently on week 3, 5 people left to go.
I wasn’t worried at first because I had gotten the immunity idol necklace (linked together paper clips with a roll of tape at the end) 2 out of 3 times. But people are starting to form alliances and I don’t think I can keep competing in the challenges since I broke my ankle in the Running Down the Stairs contest.
How would you proceed with this? Should I sabotage my competition somehow?

Basically, long story short, I started a job a year and a half ago. All went well for the first 6 months, then my boss got very angry at being passed up for a promotion. Now, his whole attitude is, “If I’m not happy then no one can be happy.” Everyone is miserable because of him. He calls me into meetings on friday afternoons at 5pm and I don’t leave until 9pm. He yells, slams his fist on the desk and shoots pens across the room in his rage. He is so angry at me for taking one sick day when I had bronchitis or for having a bad result on one project out of 100’s I’ve worked on. Others in our office all have kids and are afraid to report him and possibly be fired. Our VP is above him and adores him b/c he kisses butt to her all day. Should I go to HR and report him for harrassment. I have lots of e-mails, quotes and tons of examples with dates of how he treats me. Our industry is tight and small and word travels fast so it may be hard to get another job later on. Please help me??
