“bonus” Pay For Exempt Employees Over 40 Hours?

our company correctly classifies employees as “exempt” or “non exempt.” However, they have all employees use the punch clock ( I know this is wrong) and exempt employees who work over 40 hours are given regular rate of pay (not time and a half) as a “bonus”, not as salary. I am being promoted to HR director, is this OK to do? It doesn’t seem like it would be.

My boss informed me several weeks ago that I was up for a promotion. She was getting my information together to submit to our VP & HR. Not long after she informed me of this, our proformace evaluations were due. So she called me in & said I was doing great & was very certain my promotion would come through. She also mentioned that she wasn’t sure how much of a raise I would get but hopefully I would be satisfied. I began to ask her if she knew any specifics about the raise & she said no that would be up to our VP to determine. I then inquired about possibly sheduling a meeting with our VP to inquire about a raise (I have an amount I’m looking for like most people). My boss cut me short & strongly adviced that I do nothing of the sort. She told me, I shouldn’t even know about this promotion, & it’s “unwritten policy” that employees ‘do not ask for raises.’ If I did I would most certianly loose my promotion & our VP wouldn’t be happy that I knew of all this. IS THIS EVEN LEGAL? Strange..

A human resources manager is creating a code of ethics for the employees of the retirement home she works for. Which of the following is NOT an ethics principle she should keep in mind as she creates this code?
1. Principles can deviate from common practices because of the prestigious nature of the facility.
2. Any decisions should be fair to all concerned: retirement home nurses, cleaning personnel, and administrative staff.
3. The principles should not upset current retirement home workers and future job applicants.
4. Input on the code should be gained from other knowledgeable individuals or groups.
5. She should not have to pull rank or use coercion to implement her ethics code.

Do Corporation Hr Dept. Black List Employees?

I am in sales, and have always been over quota. I applied for another position within my company that recently mergered with another company. The VP called me to setup an interview, and left a message outlining the selection process. I waited four days after the deadline to be contacted, and to make a long story short, they hired another internal canidate. What make this sting most of all is they hired an new employee of only three months when I have 4 years of service. I complained to HR, and now I feel black listed. Do companies black list others? Should I move on?

Teamsters Urge NCAA to Drop Coke Sponsorship
Union Cites Labor, Human Rights, and Environmental Abuses
WASHINGTON, March 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Teamsters rallied today at NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis and at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey to urge the NCAA to drop key sponsor Coca-Cola. The union cited concerns about Coca- Cola’s destruction of natural resources in developing countries, its worker and human rights abuses in the U.S. and abroad, and the elimination of good- paying U.S. jobs at Coke bottler and distributor Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE)…..
“The NCAA should stand for what’s best and brightest in college
athletics, including fair play, integrity, and sportsmanship,” said Jack
Cipriani, Director of the Teamsters Brewery and Soft Drink Workers
Conference. “Coke’s record sure doesn’t match those high ethical standards. A company that pollutes, discriminates, destroys good American jobs ….
HERE IN THE UNITED STATES CCE, Coca-Cola’s largest bottler, plans to eliminate and restructure thousands of middle-class jobs in the U.S. under a new business model. Coke and CCE are engaged in a concerted campaign to destroy job security, pension benefits and health care coverage for the workers and their families……..(CHECK THE LINK ABOVE)
NO WONDER THE EMPLOYEES ARE REACHING OUT!
“For us, our members come first,” Cipriani said. “But, with Coca-Cola
and CCE, workers get the short end of the stick. All this while the current CEO of Coca-Cola was given a 2006 salary, bonus, incentives and perks in excess of $20 million. And the former CEO of CCE was awarded $10 million ……..
TEAMSTERS TO THE RESCUE
The Teamsters Union represents more than 14,000 Coca-Cola and CCE employees in the United States and Canada.
Would the Fort Worth CCE plant as well as other CCE plant’s employees benefit if they were with The Teamsters Union as well?
I say yes! But the employees that worked at the CCE Fort Worth plant that were interviewed were afraid of losing their jobs and report that they were even threatened if any contact was made to the Teamsters or other employees on the subject and some employees were given unfair work loads on a regular basis.
TEAMSTERS PROTECT the employees from these very conditions.
Some companies use these tactics in order to keep the union out by threatening jobs and or making the job difficult to unbearable in some cases and employees believe these threats and continue to work under bad conditions and poor management, for low pay. Aren’t these same tactics used in “sweatshops”?!
According to my count of those employees asked, there are enough CCE employees that feel the Teamsters would be the way to go. In fact, all but one of the employees that were asked, were very unhappy and agreed with the above. One said that he agreed with the above but for the record he wasn’t going to say anything that might put his job at risk so he stuck to the sunny side of things like, “I’m thankful that I have a job and I can’t find another one that pays me as well as CCE”. When I asked this middle aged employee, would he leave the company after all these years (over 10 yrs) if I offered him $5.00 more pre hour and better conditions today, he responded with a “yes” and walked away.
Will CCE of Fort Worth go union?

I am the director of human resources for WidgetCorp. WidgetCorp’s director of information technology recently came to me with concerns regarding employees’ use of the Internet for personal reasons on company time. Such usage problems have included time spent shopping, checking personal e-mail or social networking sites (such as Facebook or MySpace), reading news sites or blogs, and even job searching. As well, a number of employees have taken to listening to the radio online, which is distracting for nearby co-workers but also results in increased bandwidth usage, costing the company money.
WidgetCorp’s unwritten policy has been to overlook these types of personal usage as long as such activities did not interfere with employees’ productivity. However, it’s clear the time has come to develop and enforce a company-wide Internet usage policy. The company’s president agrees, but has requested that the new policy make reasonable allowance for personal usage during employee breaks and lunch hours, when employees are technically “off the clock.”
I now need write a memo to all employees informing them of the new policy and its details. The policy will take effect 4 weeks after you issue the email.
******Does anyone have a letter like this for your company?

The problems did not exist until SEIU started contracting with County Government Agencies. Each employee is a dollar sign to SEIU. I am talking about thousands of employees whether you like SEIU or not. SEIU gets paid by each County employee X amount of dollars each pay period for services SEIU does not complete and refuses to be made accountable for not serving each employee in a timely manner, In most cases SEIU and its Job Stewards are working at taking away county employee privileges and Benefits such as health care insurance. The retired County employees do not have health insurance. What is wrong with this picture? The county agency has a SEIU employee who is Director of Human Resources in the Personnel department. Do you think this could be the big problem? SEIU sold county employees down the river to county management employees. SEIU was not hired to protect the rights of county employees of lesser pay and different bargaining units..

I am a Human Resources Director. It is my job to enforce policy. Lately several employees have been abusing their bathroom breaks. They stay in there for over 10 minutes sometimes. So last week I bought a bullhorn and have quietly snuck in and then loudly announced into the bullhorn “Mr. so and so feels like they need to be in the bathroom for over 10 minutes. This is not acceptable”.
I have had to do this to at least 10 employees within the past couple of days. Why are they getting angry with me when its the policy they should be upset about?

Can I used the Maoist labor aristocracy of the 1st world theory, to justify laying off a bunch of employees
According to the Maoist Internationalist Movement, white workers are NOT workers but simply labor aristocrats who live off the work of the 3rd world. Thats why 1st world workers are so conservative.
I’ve always considered myself a Leftist. But now I’ve been offered a promotion to Asst Manager, and a bonus if as Human Resources Director I can trim the staff by 15%. So according to MIM, Im actually being a revolutionary by crushing the LA.
White Americans are “Settlers” according to LA theory and can not be considered proletariat.
So my conscience is clear no?
