Ok there are two things going on:
1) I was promised health insurance benefit. I even believe it’s on my job offer in writing. After my 90 days probation period, I tried to apply but my eployer had no information on it. So I had to wait for the HR Dept. to find out about the plans and prices of the offered plans. As soon as they came to me with the options, I signed up but they told me I missed the deadline (which even the HR director didn’t know existed until the morning she told me that). Now my employer is telling me I will have to wait until May, 2007.
2) My employer is behind 5 or six pay stubs for paychecks to all employees (8 of us, it’s a small company). We know they don’t have pay stubs for us because they are behind on their taxes so they can’t provide a pay stub. I know that if my employer is not paying taxes, they are putting in jeopardy the workman’s comp they are supposed to have. So theoretically, if I get F’d up and need disability, they won’t be able to provide.
I was hired as an HR Manager at a company that had hired a lot of illegal immigrants before I was there. I found out from my boss that this was the reason the two previous HR Managers quit the job. Not to mention my Manager (VP, owner’s daughter) wouldn’t let me report an injury for an employee who burned her hand in a small fire. When I asked why, she said “we can’t report this ’cause if OSHA finds out we use illegal chemicals we will be shut down”. After numerous employees (illegal immigrants) reported having headaches, and the two miscarraiges in the department, I confronted my Manager about the illegal chemicals. She wasn’t too happy and fired me this past Friday for making a “payroll mistake”.
Can you point me in the right direction of who to call and what to do in this type of situation? I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I found out something happened to any of the 230 employees that work there.
Did I mention they are located in front of an oil refinery.
My husband just found out today that his work has been offering health insurance for well over a year, even though he had been asking for it the whole time. Weeks ago the manager told him that the company “didn’t have to” (this is a right to work state) and that he would have to get another job (even though he’s been there for almost 7 years) if he wanted insurance. What perplexes me is that they’ve know about this. The person that told him was the regional Human Resources Director. None of the other employees have know about it either-and are very angry. Is it illegal for his boss to withold that kind of information?
