Career Change.i Was A Lawyer W 5 Yrs Experience.now Applying For Position As A Human Resources Manager.?

A few of my friends in the HR line advised me against it,telling me to stick to the legal line, the reason being that it was too late for a career change, and that the legal and HR fields are world apart. But the 5 yrs experience as a lawyer was gained in my own small size firm, where I was the jack of all trade, shuffling between business (managerial) and professional responsibilities which I believe, are skills transferable and relevant to the job I’m applying for. What say you?If you are my prospective employer, will you hire me?And if you are going to interview a person for the position of Human Resources Manager, what actually do you want from your prospective employee? Will appreciate answer from those in the position of hiring people.Thank you. as_sail@yahoo.com

Applied For Hiring Coordinator Position At A Bank. Any Tips To Help Me Land The Job?

I currently work as a HR Consultant for a firm that works with city and county govenments. We help them recruit/hire (a little), create job ads, write job descriptions, develop personnel policies, set compensation, etc. I’ve been working there for a year and a half.
The position would be recruiting and hiring hourly employees, maintaining recruitment files, and maintaining HR forms and job descriptions. They want 1-2 years of related experience and proficiency in Office products, with banking experience a plus.
I don’t have experience in the banking industry, but I do offer an MBA, Bachelor’s Degree in HR, and have assisted one client in recruiting and screening applicants for an HR Director position. I have recruited and hired an HR Assistant and two interns for our firm and written/revised many job descriptions.
I believe I have the education and experience, but how can I make myself stand out before and after the interview? What are banks in particular looking for?

Organization Misled Me, Told I Will Transfer Into A Different Position Previously Held. Rif Notice Received.?

11/1/06 RIF notice received that Admin. Srvcs. Dir. position is abolished, however, Support Srvs. Dir. is available. I was promoted from Support Srvcs. Dir. to Admin. Srvc. Dir. Rather than lay off, staff were placed in vacant position without applying; whereby precedence set.
11/10/06: Assistant Director comment “As far as I am concern you still have a job, just submit a Letter of Interest. We will discuss compensation. I did, but no response.
11/20/06: Letter of Interest submitted. Asked for a 48 hours response time. Since I did not get a response, filed for grievance on 11/27/06.
12/4/06: Response from Human Resource that since I did not submit grievance on the RIF Notice in the 5 days, there is no grounds for grivance.
My supervisor said he addressed a memo. to me on 11/20/06. Memo. given to Human Resource. I have not been given the memo. After 14 working days, no response to the Letter of Interest.
Are these practices acceptable and legal?

Has The Position Been Filled?

I interviewed for a administrative position for a nonprofit organization. I went to several interviews the first one was with human resources, the second was with the person who would be my supervisor and the final one was with the director of the program. After my last interview (which went well) I was told I would get a call back last week and I never did. I called and left a message, but my message was never returned. Should I assume that the position was filled. What should I do? I really like this position and the people I have met.

I Held A Position That I Am Asked To Reapply Or Be Rifed. Is This Righ?

Can the Assistant Director’s statement “As far as I’m concerned, you still have a job” be a verbal contract?
Is it legal that Human Resource Manager hold onto a document that is not addressed to him?
Does the Human Resource Manager decide what goes to the Grievance Officer? (in this case, the HR is part of the grievance)
After 14 working days, I have yet to receive a response to the Letter of Interest (requested by Assistant Director). Is this legal?

I Just Got An Hr Assistant Job. How Many Years Can I Put In With That Position Before I Could Advance?

I have an HR bachelor’s degree and will start my new job very soon. I am hoping to advance within the company, but if that’s not possible I would obviously need to look outside the company for opportunities. Most higher level HR jobs require HR experience. How many years in this position do you think would be adequate to advance to a higher level position such as assistant director or maybe director of one HR department (benefits, training, etc.)?

Is It Right To Apply For A Position One Held Previously And Did Well In That Position?

Finance Manager stated “Admin. Srvc. Director abolished but you can transfer into Support Services.” Is this a commitment on behalf of the organization?
Assistant Director comment “As far as I am concern you still have a job, just submit a Letter of Interest. Is this a verbal contract on behalf of the organization?
Since I have not received a response (aftr 14 working days) to the Letter of Interest, Is this legal?
Is it legal to withhold corresponse not addressed to him?
Does the Human Resource Manager have a right to deny grievance if the request is forwarded to the Grievance Officers?
