Having a degree in HR, I know some golden rules of interviewing and would think that the general public would know too-especially a VP of HR. One being that you don’t inquire about someone’s nationality. I went for an interview with the VP of HR and an HR manager for a well known company. First thing out of the VP’s mouth was directed at the HR manager and was “do you know where this last name is from?” she says no and he says iran. I say nothing. Then he askes me some questions relevant to the job and looks at my resume and asks why I did not put down that I speak farsi. I tell him because I am not iranian, I am assyrian. He then turns to his HR manager and says “oohh, assyrians are a very ancient civilization, remind me to tell you about them later”. Again, I say nothing. Then out of nowhere, he turns to the HR manager and says you know, if we (we as in the United States) ever decided to attack Iran, you know for their nuclear weapons, there won’t be any assyrians left. I don’t know why, but again I said nothing. I know I did fine in the interview because it consisted of 3 vague questions (what I know about the company, why i picked HR, and my background). I got their cards, went home and send out thank you notes. I then realized by his name, that he was armenian. If anyone knows the history between armenians and assyrians, they will know that they do not like each other. Couple days later in the mail, I get a rejection letter. Any suggestions?

This guy’s wife most likely left him for a Persian guy or sometin. Armenians all over the world have alot of respect for Iranians. I never knew that Armenians and Assyrians dont like each other. Is it cuz Armenians dont accept the Assyrian genocide? And 2 answer ur question, there is nothing u can do. This would be considered discrimination of the highest magnitude, but what can you do?
Nothing you can do – I would forget it and move on (personally I wouldn’t want to work with people like that anyway). It may have been discrimination, but there’s no point dwelling on it (as I am sure you know) because you could never prove it.
It does sound a little like discrimination..
Definitely sounds like. The person sounded rude!
Call back and ask for a specific reason on why you got rejected.
Be thankful you didn’t get the job..by the sounds of it.
Yes it was . But unfortunatly you are left with the burdon of proof , so unless you recorded it or have a credable wittness you ar S.O.L. It is bad that people can not see past race or color but it is big money for people like Jesse Jackson , Al Sharpton and especialy the amount of power it gives the Gov over persons of minority . The poor out number the rich in this country but the poor (not any certain race ) can not uniffy to do any thing about the way things are ran by the very organized rich who usually gain office by the amount of money they are able to put into their advertisment. Racism is what it is and unfotunatly we all are responsable for it . My own oppion ofcorse
