What Can I Claim For Tax Deductions For My Career?

I am looking for anything that I can deduct as an expense for my IT career or education toward my career. ie can I claim books on IT, a new computer system, certification expenses, any technology so that i may keep up to date, etc.
I tried looking on IRS.gov but came up with nothing. (Their site is enormous and confusing) Is there a reference I can go by other than buying software from HR Block or Inuit (Turbo Tax)?

You can deduct tuition, books, CD ROM courses, on line courses, pencils, pens, paper, etc.. If a professor made you go out and buy something necessary for class, that can be deducted. Any testing you had to pay for can be deducted. Basically, anything you needed to pay out that was related to getting your education can be deducted.
I think some things like computers, cell phones, Internet bills and maybe even gas mileage can be deducted at a certain percentage rate. Check with your accountant for specifics…after all, your paying them…they should know these things.
Also, to save even more money, check on clothes you bought for work or school, prescription medicine, doctors visits, student loans, charities, etc.. The list goes on but make sure you have all of your receipts in case you get audited.
A good site to look at is: money.cnn.com/2005/02/07/pf/taxes/deduct…

I don’t know exactly where, but somewhere at the lower portion of 1040 form, on the first page (you can download the form from IRS web site), where charitable contribution deduction is listed, there is a box where you can enter the job related expenses. Find the box and read the instruction to fill the box (you can also download it from IRS web site). I believe 2% rule applies though.
