What Does It Mean If The Hr Manager Just Stops Talking To You After Final Interviews?

I have been interviewing over the phone with a company for about 4 weeks now. I have had phone conversations with the Acct. Director, Supervisor and the VP of Acct Services.I have a friend that works there and said that everyone liked me. Last week (weds) I had my final interview before I was supposed to go to the company. However since then the HR manager that I have been dealing with has just disappeared, she will not return my call or email. This is for a major company so I am trying to give it two weeks before I really start to think that it is a no go. Has anyone experienced this, or have an idea of what might be going on. I haven’t received a letter, email or phone call saying that I didn’t get the job but at the same time I haven’t heard anything either. Any help on this would be appreciated *** I really want this job and am really trying to stay positive about it.

There are a million reasons they have not called – here are a few potentials:
    1 – vacation
2 – still interviewing other candidates
3 – waiting on the hiring managers to finally make their decision
4 – too busy to call back.
5 – may have sent you a letter already
6 – just may not be a very good HR manager and just haven’t called. (Hey it happens)
As an HR manager I know sometimes we are caught between the rock and a hard place. We don’t make the hiring decisions but we do have to make sure all the ducks arein a row when they make an offer including salary info, EEO considerations, internal candidates just to name a few.
So hang in there and don’t alienate them by calling every day. one or 2 times per week would be the max I would suggest.

Skip the HR. Go to the business and ask any employee if the position has been filled. If yes, keep applying at other places and never look back.
If not, ask to speak to any manager or director. If no one is there, leave a handwritten note that you want this job.

There could be many reasons for the delay. Bide your time and if you’ve called/emailed and expressed that you’re still interested, then leave it alone. It’s possible that they offered the position to someone and that person is dragging their feet in accepting. It could be that they’re deciding whether to choose a candidate from the people already interviewed, or continue to interview new candidates. Also, it could just be a delay in setting up a start date that’s convenient to payroll, or someone’s schedule. From my own experience, once a candidate is chosen, the paperwork goes through many hands before the formal offer can be made. This would be true with any major company. Don’t worry but keep looking. Good luck!
