When To Apply For A Position?

Is it better to apply for a job as soon as the position is posted, or wait until the last day to put in an application? Or does it really matter in these days of HR software?

In this day and age it really doesn’t matter. HR software scans the resume for certain key words and tells me which person to call. If i get a paper application i scan it as soon as i get it for the same buzzwords and experience; provided it is not too long to do so on the spot. If the resume is long i usually just put it on my desk somewhere never to be seen or heard from again. Oops oh well!!! Make it short and to the point if it is a paper resume.

I would be the first person to go and apply. It shows you are a leader and the type of person that doesn’t need to be told what to do..Go for it!!

i would do it as soon as possible so you might get called for an interview especially if the job is going to get a lot of applicants

There are two schools of thought. The first is to simply apply as your application is going to be first received and therefore on the bottom of the stack and thus the LAST one looked at.
By the same token, there are those thatfeel for the same reason, you should wait a day or two before you apply so that your resume ends up near the top of the stack and you have a better chance of being the first to impress the interviewer.
My thoughts go with the second one.
